Shelby's JDMS Journal of Events
March 2000 to present
Week 45 - Ending January 13
Saturday 1/13/01 : Shelby and I went back to Omaha Tuesday January 9th for a checkup. Her last appointment was in November. Overall things went great!
Dr. J had recently helped to design a test to measure strength and endurance for JDMS and other related conditions. This test was a series of exercises ranging from simple to difficult. Shelby did very well and there were just a few things she had trouble with.
Dr. J is very impressed with Shelby's progress, as usual. Her strength has steadily increased since March. Although she's not yet 100%, she's getting real close.
Shelby's weight gain is apparent and she sometimes gets a little down about it. She's been very conscious about her eating habits though, and she's doing everything possible to keep the weight off. Her exercise is very important not only to her recovery physically but also mentally because she knows she's doing something to help control her weight. She feels better after therapy or after a workout. She's become a very good swimmer because of the time spent with her PT in the pool. We patiently await the summer months so we can swim outside in the sunshine!
Dr. J lowered Shelby's dosage of Prednisone from 20 mg. to 10 mg. per day. We are very happy about this and it's encouraging for the future.
I've added a page to the web site that shows her test results. I've showed normal ranges and then Shelby's results for those that were tested each time.
